Vermont youth will grow up without a mentor.
The Mentor Connector began in 2004
to address the increasing drug abuse, violence and criminal activity in Rutland County, VT. With disjointed funding and scattered youth programs, the Rutland community rallied together to find funding for a handful of struggling mentoring organizations. The outcome was a central organization to champion mentoring and combine the programs to offer community-mentoring services across the entire county. Throughout it’s existence, the Mentor Connector has mentored over 1,000 youth, collaborated with hundreds of local businesses and organizations to support mentoring and has assisted 25 community organizations and schools to establish mentoring programs.
The Need For Mentoring
As we empower Rutland County Youth.
We are dedicated to ensuring that every young person in Rutland County has someone they can turn to, someone who stands beside them and reminds them that they matter.
Youth in Diversion
Our one-on-one mentors use fun, teachable moments to support youth in the Diversion process to reduce recidivism and promote a successful transition away from the Juvenile Justice System.
Pregnant and Parenting Youth
We understand how hard it is to be a parent. We match pregnant and/or parenting youth with one-on-one mentors to enhance social-emotional, workforce development, and parenting skills to support the next generation.
Foster Care Youth
We work closely with the foster care system to match youth at risk for and living in foster care while increasing emotional, educational, and workforce skills.
Family Mentoring Program
Our successful Family Mentoring Model matches a community mentor with the family and provides a community mentor with each youth within the family. The team of mentors work together to use fun, teachable moments to help develop life skills, enhance self-sufficiency, and strengthen the family unit.
